Stakeholder roundtable meetings

The priorities outlined below are based on a preliminary analysis of all recorded comments at each event:

Stakeholder Roundtable Meeting #1 – Business and Industry Priorities

    1. An understanding that highway projects require significantly more dollars than other improvements
    2. A request for attention to fair housing allocation
    3. Prioritization of spending on busses, bike lanes, carpooling and jobs close to transit
    4. Attention to the micro-local when it comes to logistics and transportation decisions – even within Kern County, priorities vary by community

 

Stakeholder Roundtable Meeting #2 – Social Equity Priorities

    1. Support for taking trucks off highways and better freight management
    2. An understanding that personal behavior is a major component of any greater change
    3. A desire to stay within budget

 

 

Stakeholder Roundtable Meeting #3 – Environmental Justice and Housing Priorities

 

Cycle 1: February-June, 2012

The Directions to 2050 Cycle 1 Outreach Strategy was designed to solicit input from stakeholders and community members on priorities for the region’sStrategies of particular interest to community workshop participants included*:

  • Link education/training/youth mentorships with economic development initiatives
  • Maintain and develop comprehensive community services for health, education, safety, and recreation
  • Add, maintain, and improve sidewalks and bike lanes for safer, active lifestyles
  • Maintain local streets and roads
  • Improve air quality
  • Invest in renewable energy production and distribution, including wind and solar power

Workshop participants identified the following principles as the top three priorities for the region and their community’s future*:

  • Enhance economic vitality
  • Provide adequate and equitable services
  • Conserve energy and natural resources, and develop alternatives

*We are still in the middle of the community engagement process and receive new input everyday.  These results are preliminary.

Stakeholder Roundtable Meetings

Kern COG hosted three stakeholder roundtable meetings during Cycle 1. The purpose of the stakeholder meetings was to gain valuable insight regarding issues, challenges, and opportunities related to energy efficiency, energy use reduction, and implementation plans.
